According to the report, Apple will use Nanosys, a company that owns 300 patents in Quantum Dot technology, and has been rumored to be working with Apple since December. Shaughnessy added that Nanosys CEO Jason Hartlove told him last week that the first QD smartphone will launch by "mid-year," which matches up with the May-June expectations for the iPhone 6.
Shaughnessy also points to four recently published Apple patent filings for Quantum Dot tech, which suggests that they were filed about 18 months ago and "began to work on QD significantly in advance of that."

Another recent report from Taiwan's Economic Daily News notes that while Apple will release two 'iPhone 6' models later this year, the larger model won't get the iconic iPhone name. The publication states that Apple will unveil a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 in Q3 (earlier than some other reports suggest), along with an "experimental" 5.6-inch phablet that will feature a different name, though the report did not mention exactly what it could be called. The larger-screened device will also pack sapphire glass, according to EDN.
While various reports have suggested Apple would release two smartphone models with displays ranging from 4 inches to 6 inches, BGR notes that this is the first to surface that suggests the larger model will not be called an iPhone.
