Analog Devices (ADI) has acquired OneTree Microdevices, a fabless startup developing GaAs and GaN amplifiers for cable (CATV) and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure. ADI currently supplies data converters, clocking and control/power conditioning for cable access applications. The addition of OneTree Microdevices enables ADI to supply the complete signal chain for cable infrastructure.
The demand for higher data rates for content delivery to the home, supported by the implementation of the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) 3.1 standard, requires broader bandwidth, higher output power and better linearity from the amplifiers in the CATV distribution network. OneTree Microdevices, based in Santa Rosa, California, designs amplifiers for this next generation, using combinations of GaAs and GaN devices.
