晶片巨擘 Intel Corp (英特爾) ( (US-INTC) ) 宣布新合作關係,欲將其晶片打入智慧型手機市場。
英特爾執行長 Paul Otellini 在消費電子展 (CES) 上宣布,將與 Motorola Mobility (摩托羅拉) ( (US-MMI) ) 展開數年合作關係,由摩托羅拉使用英特爾的 Atom 晶片系列開發智慧型手機。
摩托羅拉執行長 Sanjay Jha 表示,首款搭載英特爾晶片的智慧型手機將於今年稍晚問世。
值得注意的是,Otellini 是 Google( (US-GOOG) ) 的董事,而 Google 正準備收購摩托羅拉。
除了與 Microsoft (微軟)( (US-MSFT) ) 的長期合作,英特爾也一直努力開發搭載 Android 作業系統的晶片。因為 Google 收購摩托羅拉主要是為其專利和智慧財產,所以 Google 可能會給與摩托羅拉較長的時間,多實驗其智慧手機硬體。
在英特爾宣布上述消息前,也宣布另一項大型合作關係,此回主角則是中國最大個人電腦製造商 Lenovo Group (聯想集團) (HK-00992) 。
聯想宣布將以專為中國設計的新手機 K800,結合英特爾的 Atom 晶片,在第 2 季進軍當地智慧手機市場。
目前手機市場對於英特爾來說還算陌生,因為目前搭載 ARM Holdings Plc ( (US-ARM) ) 晶片才是主流,英特爾 Atom 的下一代晶片 Medfield 是否能取得市場一席地位尚待觀察。
但英特爾發表了一些令人印象深刻的技術規格,可讓 Qualcomm Inc. (高通) ( (US-QCOM) ) 等競爭對手將其晶片放入與 ARM 晶片一起運作。
英特爾展示了一款建議設計的智慧手機之建議設計,搭載其晶片,通話時間可長達 8 小時,影視播放則可達 6 小時,配有 800 萬畫素的相機,且可在高畫質模式下連續快拍 15 張照片。
這些炫目的功能是否足以吸引手機廠轉用其晶片設計智慧手機,此點能有待觀察,但確定的是,英特爾已向正確的道路上邁進一大步。
